Well... we chose a winner, and then also chose some 2nd and 3rd prize winners as well, because we had so many wonderful nominees.
Our Day at the Spa winner was nominated by her loving friend Meredith Olsen of Portland...
The winner is: Luze Toledo
This is what Meredith wrote about Luze: "Luze is the hardest working person I know. She never has the time or money to treat herself to a little fun or relaxation. A single mom with two young children, one of whom is mentally disabled, Luze works full-time in refugee assistance as well as attending Maryhurst University full time in hope of the possibility of providing a better future for her children. Everyone who knows her is blown away by her ability to balance kids, work, and school - all the while never taking sick days:never missing classes; and never missing out on her children's safety and well - being. Luze has become so used to operating at high speed, that I don't believe she remembers what it feels like to relax anymore. It would be a dream come true if the Dragontree could provide her with a little solace, a little peace, a little time just for herself. In my mind, I cannot think of a more deserving candidate for your Sugar and Spice award."
So that is our big winner!!! Some of the other winners are quite impressive also: doing runs to raise money and awareness for the women in Congo, surviving awful disease, and just being fabulous human beings! I also think that the people who nominated these people are fabulous human beings - for thinking about others and how beautifully they touch our world.
