Ayurveda

The traditional healing system of India, Ayurveda has an over 6000 year history of effectively bringing into balance the body, mind, and soul.  It is founded upon the unchanging, universal principles of the natural world.  As the science of life, Ayurveda goes well beyond the treatment of disease, to guide us in living life fully and achieving our potential.

Core Principles

Ayurveda is based on the five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and ether.  Everything in the world is made up of these forces.  Health is an expression of their balance.  When there is imbalance, disharmony may be seen on a mental, physical, or spiritual level.

Each individual has a unique constitutional makeup called the prakruti (sometimes referred to as dosha).  One’s prakruti is based on the proportion of the elements within them.  Once a person’s prakruti is determined, a course of action is developed to correct any imbalance (vikruti) and support them in attaining health.  Lifestyle suggestions, herbs, diet, sound, color, and meditation are tools used to guide this path.

Bliss Therapies

In the transcendent state of bliss, deep transformation and healing can occur.

These treatments are based upon the principles of India’s ancient medical system, Ayurveda - the Science of Life. Though heavenly as one-time treatments, these therapies are traditionally given multiple times in a course of treatment, and we believe their benefits are greatly enhanced when received in a series.

Garshana
Raw silk gloves are used to perform a dry skin brushing with light, vigorous strokes. Garshana exfoliates dead skin, enhances circulation of blood and lymph, and promotes elimination of toxins. Done regularly, it is reported to break down fat deposits. $35

Swedana
Swedana is the promotion of sweating for the purpose of releasing impurities from the system. A steam tent is used to warm and relax the body and open the pores. Meanwhile, you will receive a scalp and facial massage. $55

Abhyanga
A dance of hands over the body, utilizing oils chosen specifically for each individual’s constitution. Abhyanga’s strokes are a graceful choreography of patterns, designed to penetrate into and remove blockages in all seven dhatus (bodily tissues). Abhyanga is also excellent for promoting lustrous skin.

Ayurvedic Consultations

Our Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist forges partnerships with our clients focused towards the achievement of your health goals. Together you will design a plan as you move towards balance. The goal is not to generate a dependency upon our care, but ultimately for clients to be able to sustain their own health. To this end, she will be your ally, teacher, and cheerleader.

The initial consultation is a two hour session used to gather information about you and your lifestyle in order to determine your prakruti and state of imbalance. The next appointment is used to discuss the finding of the initial consultation and formulate a plan towards ultimate health and balance. Regular follow up visits are encouraged to continue on your path and be supported in reaching your goals.

Pillars of Ayurvedic treatment

Diet - Food is medicine and we consume it at quantities far beyond any other substance. On an Ayurvedic path to health we look at the qualities of food and determine which foods will guide us towards balance and which will lead to imbalance. But, harmony with our food comes from more than just what we eat, it also comes from how we eat.

Herbs - Herbal formulas are created to assist a person in their journey to whole health.

Daily routines - What we do in our daily life: when we wake up, when we eat, how we think about ourselves and our world deeply affect our health. Ayurveda looks at these rhythms in life and helps determine which are serving us, and which could change to serve us more.

Five Sense Therapies - Sound, color, aromatherapy, diet, and massage therapy are used to achieve constitutional balance.

Yoga - As the sister science to Ayurveda many of the branches of yoga such as asanas (postures), meditation, and pranayama (breath work) are used to cultivate harmony.

Cleansing/Rehabilitation - Tonification, palliation, or reduction therapies may be administered if needed.
