Abhyanga Massage

Abhyanga Massage

Perhaps you have never had, or even heard of, abhyanga massage. It is an Ayurvedic massage done with copious amounts of warm sesame oil and Ayurvedic blends of essential oils that are chosen based on the dosha, or constitution, of a client. The abhyanga massage is suitable for a client of any dosha type.

It is a fairly choreographed massage, that is very light in pressure. The light pressure stimulates the circulatory system and lymphatic system, which has a detoxifying effect on the body.

The copious amount of oil used in abhyanga is seen as very nourishing for the body. In abhyangha massage, oil is even applied in the ear and on the scalp and hair.

Abhyanga massage is typically done without a breast drape, due to the flowing nature of the strokes, but a breast drape can be used upon request for a more modest client.

I would suggest Abhyanga massage for a client who is looking for deep relaxation, as well as clients who do not like a lot of pressure during their massage.

Abhyanga massage is very relaxing! Other benefits include improved sleep, calms the nerves, benefits the skin, lubricates the joints, increases mental alertness, decreases the effects of aging, promotes good vision, and increases stamina. With all of these great reasons to try abhyanga massage, I’m sure you will feel great after your treatment! Abhyanga massage can be done on its own, or along with other Ayurvedic treatments for a truly blissful day.
